Summer's traditionally a time of reduced activity for the Club, the end of the university term means our mostly student membership disappers into the ether and just a few hardcore holdouts are left to try and fill the dojo with karate spirit.....but not so this year! :)

An increase in the number of our members pursing postgraduate courses throughout the summer, in our non-student members, and in our student members willing to travel in order to train has meant that, though reduced in numbers, the club has been thriving throughout the summer months under the careful eye of Sensei McCullagh and his increasing team of black belts.

The work put into training has certainly borne fruit despite the unpredictable weather in our little corner of the country, with one 2nd Dan and three 1st Dan black belts recently earned within the Club, in addition to our dedicated juniors creeping up the kyu grades.

As well as grading success, the Club was pleased and honoured to host Sensei John Donaldson for a course in the early part of the summer. The course focused on correct body dynamics, proper relaxation and attitude, as well as application of kata. The course was well attended, informative and great fun! :)

Finally, just a few short weeks ago, we were pleased to welcome one of our farflung members back from Finland for a few training sessions and a pint or two! Nice to see ya Ben!

All that aside, training continues as usual, September's only round the corner when we'll look forward to seeing members returning after the summer break, and hopefully our ranks swell with newcomers as the university welcomes the new intake!
